University of California Berkeley LIFE SCIENCE ADDITION BUILDING Central Chilled Water Plant Replacement
What started as an energy evaluation and modelling of the existing central chilled water plant and HVAC system became a huge project. The building has 100% outside air and exhaust HVAC system. But with new independent central cooling plant control system, energy efficient chillers, VFD pumps and cooling towers, and control strategies, the project will provide UC Berkeley with a simple payback up to 7 years for an equipment average life of 20 years. The project cost was $2.0M.
